Navigating Adulthood

Turning 18 Shouldn't Mean Facing the World Alone.

Our Navigating Adulthood program equips young people transitioning out of foster care with the practical skills, confidence, and community they need to build independent, fulfilling lives.

About The Navigating Adulthood Program

Each year, thousands of young people "age out" of the foster care system — many of them without the foundational life skills, financial knowledge, or support networks that most young adults take for granted. The transition to independence is one of the most vulnerable moments in a young person's life.

Friends of Foster Children's Navigating Adulthood program was relaunched in 2025, bringing interactive workshops, hands-on skill building, and community connection to young adults navigating this transition. We're building something meaningful here — and we're just getting started.

Workshop Topics Include:

  • Financial Literacy

  • Communication Skills

  • Critical Thinking

  • Cooking & Nutrition

  • Household Maintenance

  • Networking & Career Development

  • Healthy Relationships

  • Self-Care & Emotional Intelligence

  • Time Management

  • CPR Certification

Legacy Scholarship

Your Past Does Not Define Your Future.

The Legacy Scholarship was created to honor students who have successfully graduated high school or earned their GED after experiencing foster care — and who are ready to take the next step in their education.

If you were formerly in foster care in Palm Beach County, this scholarship is for you. Awards are designed to cover any needs related to your educational journey, including college, trade school, licensures, and certifications — room, board, books, supplies, equipment, and more.

Eligibility Requirments

The student should have previously been in foster care in Palm Beach County, Florida, with a high school diploma or GED, and be pursuing further education or vocational training.

2026 Dates:

  • Application Deadline: May 1, 2026

  • Awards Presentation: June 11, 2026
